Obey Acts 2:38 In The Bible

By Bro. Damon Wallace

Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized everyone of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and you shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. Acts 2:38

God commandeth all men every where to repent according to Acts 17:30. Repent means to think differently or afterwards, that is reconsider (morally to feel compunction or regret for disobeying the word of God). Apostle Paul (who wrote most of the Bible’s New
Testament letters to the churches) testified to both Jews and Greeks (all men and womankind) repentance toward God and faith toward our (The Church) Lord Jesus Christ according to Acts 20:21. After someone confesses their sins unto God and turns from them

unto God he must have faith in His only begotten Son Jesus Christ the Savior of the world. Apostle Paul explained that the good news (The Gospel) was and is …“how Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures; and that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the Scriptures” 1 Corinthians 15:1-4….By one man (the first Adam) sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned according to Romans 5:12. Apostle John also explains that …sin is the transgression of the law (God’s Word) according to 1 John 3:4. This is why we must be born again of water and of the Spirit according to John 3:3-8 and Acts 2:38. The law of sin and death is in our members (flesh from the earth) bringing us into captivity to the law of sin which is in our members (when we are not born again) according to Romans 7:23. So when you repent you must have faith toward Jesus Christ and be baptized in water in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of your sins and to put on Christ according to Acts 2:38 and Galatians 3:27. Here are 3 (there is more) powerful reasons and results you should be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ:

  1. Jesus said…“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved” And Peter said…“be baptized    every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins”…Mark 16:15-16 &   Acts 2:38 So baptism is for Salvation (from sins) and for the remission of (forgiveness) of sins.
  2. Just as God gave Abraham the covenant of natural circumcision of an eight day old (baby) man child that would put off the flesh of his foreskin, in like manner, God gave his Church the covenant of spiritual (eternal) circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ: Buried with him in Baptism…Romans 2:28-29 & Colossians 2:11-12. So baptism is also for putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ.
  3. Lastly, “For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ”. In baptism we put on Jesus Christ heavenly flesh by faith waiting for the coming of the Lord “And as we have borne the image of the earthy (the outer flesh image of the first man Adam), we shall bear the image of the heavenly ( the outer heavenly image of the last Adam). Romans 13:14; 1 Corinthians 15:47-49 & Galatians 3:27. So baptism is to put on Jesus Christ.

Finally, it’s major important to receive the gift of the Holy Ghost (Spirit) just like the apostles of our Lord Jesus Christ. “And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.” Acts 2:4 When apostle Peter saw some in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this (speaking with other tongues after receiving the gift of the Holy Ghost)?…He said…“this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel; And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God, I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams: And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit;” Acts 2:16-18 & Joel 2:28-29.

Apostle Peter made it very clear that the Spirit of God that the Prophet Joel prophesied about gave the utterance of other tongues which was available for all flesh (Not just the Apostles) So after apostle Peter preached the true gospel, Jews, devout men out of every nation under heaven asked, “what shall we do?” “Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do? Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost. For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call” Acts 2:37-39. We are so glad to say and witness that God is still pouring out his Spirit upon all flesh (nations) to as many as the Lord our God shall call like in the book of Acts in the Bible.
